mportance
of ANSPAC
The importance of
ANSPAC contributions cannot be understated in these politically trying
times. When we were in residency, I doubt any of us anticipated the
amount of time and effort necessary to project our patient safety
message above the cacophony of a changing medical environment. Patient
care now demands of us not only excellent clinical performance and
continuing medical education, but also an understanding of and
involvement in the political process.
Several members of
the NCSA have donated hundreds of hours developing a Political
Activities Network that facilitates communication with our federal and
state legislators. Additionally, Marion Suitt, the NCSA legislative
liaison, has spent countless hours “pounding the halls” of the NC
General Assembly carefully monitoring the activities that impact the
practice of anesthesiology. Your recurring ANSPAC contribution will
specifically support legislators who understand the integral part that
the practice of medicine plays in patient safety.
In addition to your
financial contribution, we need your time. It is extremely
important that you meet with your local representatives and
candidates, as well as discussing the importance of political
involvement with your colleagues. While other politically active
organizations have 70% of their constituents contributing to their
causes, we hove around 20%! Our goal is to double that percentage this
year.
Please return the
enclosed card as soon as possible with your generous contribution to
ANSPAC, and consider strongly the new automatic annual renewal option
we offer this year for the first time. In addition, take the time to
become personally involved with your state representatives.
Thanks in advance for
your help!
